HIS WILL, MY WAY – GIFT ODION IRABOR (ep2)
EPISODE 2
Meet Carissa Williams—the beautiful fourth child and the only daughter of Mr and Mrs Williams.
Her three older brothers—Gregory, Gavin, and Gabriel—were all married and living in the States with their families.
Her parents, both accomplished and now retired medical practitioners, had dedicated several decades to the medical profession.
They owned multiple health facilities across the globe, so money was never a concern.
Being their only daughter, Carissa was the heartbeat of the family. Her parents doted on her, even more than they did her brothers. They spared no effort in
providing everything she needed to grow, thrive, and blossom.
And Carissa never disappointed them.
She grew up smart, well-behaved, humble, kind, and intelligent—qualities that made her deeply lovable and endeared her to many. Yet, despite being widely admired, Carissa remained deliberately selective in her friendships
While donning her hairnet, Carissa walked to her bed and picked up her tablet. Her fingers scrolled absently through her picture gallery until they froze on a particular image—his image. She couldn’t tear her eyes away.
A deep breath she hadn’t realised she’d been holding slipped from her lips, long and heavy. She knew he was never coming back to her. She had accepted that truth. But even at that, she couldn’t stop missing him.
His smile. His scent. His voice.
The comforting rumble of his chest and the rhythmic bobbing of his Adam’s apple whenever he laughed—especially when she lay her head on his
chest. Those memories clung to her like a fragrance that refused to fade.
She had met Nathan during her undergraduate days, right from their first year.
Their faculties were on opposite ends of the campus—his tucked away in the northern axis and hers far off in the southern wing.
On that unforgettable day, she had lost her way while searching for her faculty. Anxious and painfully shy, she couldn’t summon the courage to ask for directions, fearing she might encounter someone with hidden motives.
What she hadn’t known was that Nathan had been watching her all along, captivated by her beauty. It wasn’t difficult for him to tell she was a fellow freshman, hopelessly lost. Several times, he had
wanted to approach her, to help, but he hesitated. What if she misread his intentions? What if she labeled him as just another campus ‘bad boy’?
So, he kept his distance, quietly watching, curiously waiting to see how she would find her way.
He knew she was a tough one. The resolute look on her face gave her away instantly. Amused, he could even hear her soliloquising, her soft mutterings drifting into the air as if they held all the answers to her dilemma. It made him chuckle. How did she expect to solve her current problem by talking to herself?
Why hasn’t she asked anyone for directions? He wondered exasperatedly, having gone one full circle with her for what felt like the umpteenth time.
Just as he was contemplating how best to approach her and put an end to her endless wandering, she surprised him by switching direction and heading
towards the southern campus. His curiosity piqued. Determined to see the end of her Gulder Ultimate Search, he quickened his pace, easily closing the distance between them.
He would never forget the triumphant gleam in her eyes when she finally located her destination. He’d even seen her clench her fists and throw a small victorious punch in the air. He grinned and shook his head. Right there, in that moment, he knew he had found her. He would get her. He just didn’t know how or when their paths would cross again.
Fred.
The thought struck him like a lightbulb moment. Fred, everyone's buddy who practically knew everyone and everything on campus. Sometimes, he wondered if there was a soul Fred didn’t know. He was the perfect social butterfly.
Tipping his head slightly to the left, he lingered, watching her lovely silhouette until she disappeared from sight.
With a reluctant sigh, he turned and retraced his steps. A quick glance at his wristwatch pulled a low groan from his lips. He was in hot soup.
Prof. Josh, the no-nonsense lecturer, must have started his class long ago. Cursing his own foolishness, he dashed towards his faculty and quickly flagged down a taxi to take him to the lecture hall.
